If this can happen there, why can't it happen in rich countries like the U.S.? There are some installed already, but I don't think I've seen any on city streets where I've lived. One reason they're attractive in Iraq is because they keep working even when the power goes out. Another reason, I imagine, is that they don't require power lines to be put in first, so they're independent from the city's infrastructure. Solar-powered streetlights—with solar panels on top that take in the sun's rays and (somehow) storing the power until nighttime—are getting installed in Fallujah, Iraq, once probably the most violent and torn-apart spot in the country.
